A guardian is a person appointed by the court to be responsible for the personal affairs of a minor or protected person. While a minor is a person under eighteen years of age, a guardian may also be appointed for an individual over the age of eighteen that lacks the capacity to meet the essential requirements for his or her health, care, safety, habilitation, or therapeutic needs without the assistance or protection of a guardian. The attorneys at Costello Porter work closely with the minor or protected person, the potential guardian, the person’s care providers, and the court to ensure that a responsible individual is appointed to represent the minor or protected person’s best interests.
